Advanced: Resetting a local Smaart activation

Created by Liz Paglione, Modified on Wed, 5 Nov at 3:07 PM by Liz Paglione

CAUTION: The steps in this article are designated for resolving specific Smaart activation errors. Do not delete your Smaart Ticket file unless instructed to by Rational Acoustics Support.

Resetting Smaart's license locally will force the program to re-require activation. This is useful when Smaart cannot be opened at all due to a licensing error, such as Error 523

Important considerations:

  • This does not change any activations in your online license management account
  • This does not automatically grant you a free seat for activating the software again
  • These steps will make the software require activation in order to be used again
  • In the worse case scenario, improper use of these steps can corrupt your Smaart license in a way that prevents activation on your device

Please do not attempt to troubleshoot a Smaart error without guidance from Rational Acoustics. Contact support if you're unable to resolve a problem with the software.

macOS Instructions

  1. Close Smaart (ensure any error messages are no longer displayed)
  2. Open a new Finder window
  3. Press Command + Shift + C to open the "Computer" window
  4. Click Macintosh HD (or your primary system drive)
  5. Navigate to the Users\Shared\Ticket directory
  6. Delete the Ticket file for the target Smaart version. See the chart below for details
  7. Open Smaart
  8. Click No if prompted to "Restore a Missing Activated License"

Windows Instructions

  1. Close Smaart (ensure any error messages are no longer displayed)
  2. Open Windows Explorer
  3. Navigate to This PC, then the C:\Users\Public\Ticket directory
  4. Delete the Ticket file for the target Smaart version. See the chart below for details
  5. Open Smaart
  6. Click No if prompted to "Restore a Missing Activated License"

Note: If you accidentally click "Yes" when the "Missing Activated License" prompt appears, the steps above will need to be repeated again. You must click "No" to finalize the Ticket file deletion.
