How to RE-Activate Smaart & Data Modeler

If you are attempting to activate Smaart/Data Modeler on a computer that has previously run and then deactivated Smaart, the activation process via "Online Activation" be the same as before. The only difference with re-activation is with "Offline Activation".

Note: Subscription installs can only ever be activated Online, so the below steps only apply for Perpetual installs

If you are reactivating a computer that is not connected to the internet, you will need to follow the usual steps for activating offline. In addition to your Machine ID, you will need to enter the Block Code as listed on the "Offline Activation" screen. The previous Activation Code will not work, and a new one must be generated from your license management account.

This screen will differ between versions/Editions

Follow these steps to obtain the new Activation Code:

  1. Login to your account at my.rationalacoustics.com and click the link for "Your Software Licenses" on the navigation bar to the left.
  2. Click on the license you will activate to (or click Details under Actions to the right)
  3. Under the "Download and Install" section, next to If you do not have an internet connection..., click the "click here" link.
  4. Fill out the form using the Block Code obtained from Smaart

Once you've submitted the necessary information, click "Register Activation" in the bottom-right to receive the new Activation Code. Copy that code back into the "Offline Activation" section of Smaart and click Activate to complete the activation process.

**If you receive any error messages, please submit a support ticket or email [email protected] directly.**

Reactivating After Restoring From a Backup (or Migrating System Files)

Generally, Smaart's third-party licensing system does not support the use of cloning or migration software (more info here). Additionally due to recent reports, we cannot support this with Subscription-based installs. We do apologize for the inconvenience.

If you are activating an installation that's been restored from a backup or migrated from another machine, the process is essentially the same as a new installation.

If you receive Error 523 while trying to activate, however, you will need to delete the old Ticket file (licensing file) to get back to the initial activation screen in Smaart.

The location of the Smaart v9 ticket file depends on the operating system version, please look for your operating system in the list below to learn the appropriate file path.

Smaart v9

  • MacOS -        (MacintoshHD)/Users/Shared/Ticket/Smaart9[Suite/RT/LE/SPL].ticket
  • Windows -    C:\Users\Public\Ticket\Smaart9[Suite/RT/LE/SPL].ticket

Data Modeler

  • MacOS -        (MacintoshHD)/Users/Shared/Ticket/Smaart1DM.ticket
  • Windows -    C:\Users\Public\Ticket\Smaart1DM.ticket

After Ticket deletion, restart your device and start Smaart again.

*NoteIf you are on MacOS, you may see the window below when attempting to restart. Ensure that "Reopen windows when logging back in" is unchecked.*

If you are asked to restore a Missing Activated License, click "NO".

Once the Activation window appears, try activating again as normal. If you run into issues, please submit a support ticket or email [email protected] directly.
