Error 523

Created by Liz Paglione, Modified on Wed, 5 Nov at 4:24 PM by Liz Paglione

Error 523 occurs when the Machine ID used by Smaart has changed and the software requires reactivation.

This is typically caused by a major macOS Software Update, Windows Feature Update, or by changing hardware components on the computer. A machine ID change can also occur when using cloning or migration software, such as Time Machine or Migration Assistant on macOS.

Please do not deactivate Smaart prior to an operating system update or computer change. Doing so will likely result in Error 553 or -199, which cannot be resolved without contacting customer support.

Follow the steps below to clear the error and get Smaart reactivated:

  1. Follow the steps in this article to reset your local Smaart activation
  2. Once Smaart has been reset, follow the steps in this article to remove the old Machine ID from your license, or submit a ticket with your license code and new Machine ID and we will remove it for you
  3. Activate Smaart as you would normally

If you are still unable to activate the software after following the steps in this article, please do not hesitate to submit a ticket and our support team will be happy to help get Smaart up and running again.
