What is the Timer Macro?

When in Real Time Mode, you may see a button with a timer icon at the top of the Control Bar. This button initializes Smaart's Timer Macro. Much like the timer on a camera or phone, you can set parameters for Smaart to automatically capture a measurement (or a series of measurements) after a specified interval of time. This can serve as a useful tool, especially when creating a spatial average: If you set the timer's countdown to a long enough value, you can move your microphone between captures. This can be extremely convenient in scenarios where you are short on time (or even just looking to save time).

Clicking the "Timer" button towards the bottom of the Control Bar will open a fly-up dialog, from which you can adjust the Timer Macro's settings.

Here is a breakdown of each setting:

  • Count Down controls how much time passes before the measurement is captured, in seconds.
  • When checked, Generator On will run the Signal Generator when the Timer Macro is started.
  • In turn, Generator Off turns the Signal Generator off after capture.
  • When applicable, Delay gives you the option to run the Delay Finder or Delay Tracker during the measurement, setting the delay value of the measurement engine. Selecting "Off" will run neither.
  • Average Time sets the length of the measurement itself, overriding the global setting.
  • Setting a Repeat value and checking its box will cause Smaart to automatically take multiple measurements in a row.

When the Timer is running, an overlay with a progress bar will be shown above your active plot(s). This displays not only the progress of your current measurement, but which number measurement is currently happening if you've enabled Repeat.
