How to deactivate Smaart

Do not deactivate Smaart if you will be using Migration Assistant to set up a new Mac, using Windows "Reset this PC and keep my files", or restoring any kind of system backup on a new device. Refer to this article for guidance instead.

Smaart's licensing system is equipped with a deactivation feature* that allows you to reclaim an installation spot if a computer will be retired, replaced, or reformatted.

If you cannot access the computer you are trying to deactivate, follow the steps in this article.

Otherwise, follow the steps below to remove a machine from your license so you can activate on another computer.

Online Deactivation

1. If possible, please ensure your computer is connected to the internet. This will ensure that any account changes will be communicated to the licensing server automatically.

2. Open Smaart, navigate to the "About" menu (File -> About or Help -> About) and click Deactivate Installation

3. After confirming that you want to deactivate, Smaart will attempt to contact our server and complete the deactivation. If the attempt was successful, then deactivation is complete! Otherwise, refer to the steps below to finalize the process if Smaart was unable to contact the server.

Offline Deactivation

If Smaart is unable to contact our server when you click Deactivate Installation, you will see a screen similar to this one:

From here, there are a few more steps to fully deactivate:

1. Take note of the Block Code and Machine ID.

If you accidentally close the dialog above without recording either number (or have them written down incorrectly), do not fret: you can view them again by re-opening Smaart. Click Offline Activation to view the current Machine ID and block code.

2. Open up your web browser and go to my.rationalacoustics.com.

3. Login to you account using your account name and password.

4. Click Software Licenses on the navigation bar at the top of the page.

5. Click on your Smaart license number and find the Machine ID that you wish to deactivate in your list of current installations.

6. Click [deactivate] in the "Action" column.

7. Click I Have a Block Code from Smaart

8. Enter the Block Code from Smaart along with your name and email address in the fields provided, then click the Release Installation. Your available installations will increase by 1 following a successful deactivation.

If deactivation is unsuccessful: it is possible your Machine ID has changed. If you are absolutely certain that you will never reactivate the software on this computer, follow the steps to manually remove the computer from your license. Please note that if you manually remove the computer, you cannot reactivate it without assistance from Rational Acoustics Support.

Otherwise, please submit a ticket so one of our support specialists can assist you with finalizing the deactivation process.

*Smaart SPL lacks this feature, as it is considered a one-time use license. If you happen to have a computer with a Smaart SPL license that has been stolen, damaged beyond use, or retired, please reach out to us and we can remove the license on our end.
