Smaart supports four basic types of sound level measurements: Sound Pressure Level (SPL), equivalent
sound level (Leq), peak sound level (e.g., Peak C), and Exposure. All of these could be considered
variants of SPL measurement. The main differences are in how the data is integrated over time and how
the results are presented.
SPL Functionality vs Smaart Editions: Which versions have more SPL options?
Over the last decade or so of development, SPL functionality in Smaart has developed from a single SPL meter in the main user interface (which we still support), to a fully featured SPL Mode entirely dedicated to be a comprehensive solution for SPL monitoring, logging, and reporting. SPL Mode contains various history plots, fully customizable metering metrics, remote-viewing capabilities, alarms and even notes, customizable 'traffic light' metering color options, logging and report generation, as well as class 1 or 2 capability with the appropriate hardware.
SPL Mode is found in both Smaart Suite and as a dedicated application, Smaart SPL.
Smaart LE and RT offer the in-plot, view-only, SPL meter - which long time users will recognize from the v7 and Di interfaces. While improved upon some by adding the ability to apply meter coloring, commonly called 'traffic lights', the SPL functionality in RT and LE is otherwise limited to a single display that does not offer logging, alarms, or any of the more advanced functionality of SPL Mode.
