Please DO NOT manually deactivate the computer to troubleshoot this problem! Doing so will simply produce an Error 217 and make it more challenging for Support to resolve. |
If Smaart's Machine ID changes while the software is deactivated, it can cause a license seat for a given computer to be used up, but the software to fail to activate. This is most likely due to an operating system upgrade, hardware change, or the use of imaging and cloning software such as Time Machine or Acronis True Image.
This is most often presented as Error 553 when activating Smaart online, or Error -199 when entering a code for an offline activation. In some cases, this may also present as Error 206 with Smaart subscription licenses.
This problem cannot be resolved without assistance from Rational Acoustics Support. It typically requires a special code to reconnect the program with your license management account. Please submit a ticket so we can help you get Smaart activated again.
To avoid this error, do not deactivate Smaart unless you are retiring your device. Deactivation is not required to reinstall or update the program.
Refer to this support article for more information on how to manage your license when when you are using Time Machine or other imaging and cloning software. If you are upgrading your operating system and are not sure what to do, we also have an article for that as well.
